Home energy rebates by state

The federal 25C and 25D tax credits expired on December 31, 2025. What remains are the state-administered Home Energy Rebates — HEEHR (formerly HEAR) and HOMES — plus state and utility programs, launched at different times, with different rules, and with funding that can run out. This index tracks each jurisdiction and says plainly which rows we have verified against official sources and which we have not. New to the federal changes? Start with what replaced the heat pump tax credit and what insulation pays in 2026. Every dated deadline lives on our deadline calendar.

23 of 51 rows are verified against the state’s official program pages (most recent check 2026-10-10): Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin. The other 28 show the status from our first registry (September 20, 2026), compiled from secondary sources — marked reported or not yet verified. We are re-checking them against each state’s energy office in batches. Always confirm on the official page before signing a contract.
All 50 states and the District of Columbia: verified rows first, then rows from our first registry, grouped by program status.

Rebates by utility

Most of the money that pays in 2026 is utility money, and people search for it by the utility’s name. Each utility page carries the utility’s own amounts, rules, window, official application and deadlines, read on its page and dated: Chelan County PUD (Wenatchee), Xcel Energy Colorado, Snohomish County PUD (Everett), Puget Sound Energy (Bellevue, Tacoma area), Con Edison (New York City, Westchester), BGE (Baltimore, central Maryland) — the full list is at utility rebate pages, with the data in utilities.json.

Download the registry (open data)

The table above is a dataset, and you can reuse it: states.csv and states.json carry all 51 rows with status, verification status (official or unverified), verification date, the programs listed on each verified page and the official source link. Licensed CC BY 4.0 with a link to this page; last verified row dated 2026-10-10. Deadlines and corrections are separate downloads on /deadlines and /corrections.

State sheets. For the states we have read in full, the whole picture also fits on one printable Letter page — program, amount, who qualifies, deadline, official source, dated — as PDF, PNG and HTML, CC BY 4.0: start with the Maryland rebate sheet; all sheets are on /sheets.

How this tracker works

Each verified state page lists the programs that exist there, what they pay, income requirements where they apply, the official application link and the date we checked it against the state’s own sources. Pages we have not verified yet say so at the top and explain how to confirm the status with the state energy office. When a state hasn’t launched, we say what’s known about timing instead of guessing. When something we published turns out to be wrong, we correct it and log the change publicly — including three state statuses and an overstatement about this registry itself, all in our corrections log.
